Fashion NYC 2020
At Macy's Herald Square on Jan 11. Mayor Bloomberg and 75 retail and fashion leaders kicked off a yearlong initiative called Fashion NYC 2020 to brainstorm about the future and ramp up the city's presence as a global force in fashion. " We'll talk about what we can do to ensure the fashion industry continues to be centered in NYC and what the city can do to encourage jobs and income growth for all size businesses." said Terry Lundgren, Macy's CEO.The whole purpose is to look ahead over the next 10 year. Anna Wintour said " I am just going to listen and learn".
Some topics discussed that evening, were providing shopping coupons to tourists, street vendor issues, Fashion Night Out Sept. 10Th, no sales tax day, a public fashion show during fashion week, shortening buying cycles for more wear "now" clothing, new media, pop-up stores, and mobile marketing.
There is also in planning for the media industry, Media NYC 2020, to try and strengthen the rapidly changing sector. Industry leaders in the print, TV, and online media brainstormed to develop strategies to enhance the cities status as a global media capital. Ryan of Gilt Group said it was important that NY as a hub for the Internet be addressed.
I am personally looking forward to hearing more about both Fashion NYC 2020 and Media NYC 2020, the possibilities are endless with incorporating new media and fashion in NYC.
